WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by +3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear generally sees higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variation (like Eth titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for the latter due to the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and can be visited at any time to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended to visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks, to keep your equipment up to date.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item upgrading, but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items which can be used to level up weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. They can be purchased by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for different currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. The button will display the preview of an item's next upgrade level in the event that there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item and the current item Level upgrade level. For example, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Many locations have upgraders for their items in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon as well as the possibility of getting an entirely new recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded, and can be boosted by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via a variety of means, which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade items system has been altered a bit, with several new features added. Once an upgrade has been completed to a certain item level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This applies even if the items are from an entirely different set of equipment.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is reduced too, but it is only available after certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW, players have a few options. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

First, you should know that crests are only available for equipment that is that is of a particular rank. Each rank comes with distinct upgrade paths. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, depending on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities, or by taking on dungeons and raids of all difficulty levels to obtain lower-level gear or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with heroic difficulty to obtain endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, however it does bring some changes to the process of upgrading. For instance, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest level possible on all of their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests wisely, as they are only used for one purpose. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the top-quality equipment that you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is especially true for items such as trinkets and rings that fill multiple slots. The discount for the entire account will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
